On August 8, Armenian forward Grant-Leon Ranos played 70 minutes for Borussia Mönchengladbach in a friendly against English side Brentford. The match ended in a 2-2 draw, with the 22-year-old striker opening the scoring in the 30th minute while playing as a left winger. This was Ranos’ first goal in this summer’s pre-season matches.

The situation in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s attacking line remains difficult, with four players currently sidelined: Shuto Machino (calf muscle), Wael Mohya (torn medial collateral ligament), Tim Kleindienst (knee), and Nathan Ngoumou (Achilles tendon). Tomorrow, the team will face Brentford again in another friendly, while their first official match of the season will take place on August 17 in the German Cup against a fifth-division club.
Given the squad’s injury problems, Ranos is almost certain to be included in the squad for the season opener, with a chance to secure a spot in the starting lineup until Ngoumou returns. Machino, who is considered a central striker, is expected to return in the coming days to replace the injured Kleindienst.
Head coach Gerardo Seoane has been using Ranos both on the wings and as a second striker. During the pre-season, he has already played on both flanks and as an attacking midfielder. Currently, the main attacking players are Franck Honorat, Kevin Stöger, Robin Hack, and Haris Tabakovic, while Ranos could become the first-choice substitute for Honorat and Hack.
