Gor Sahakyan Wins Silver at the 2026 European Weightlifting Championships

Armenian weightlifter Gor Sahakyan (71 kg weight category) became the silver medalist of the 2026 European Weightlifting Championships.
The 22-year-old athlete delivered a strong performance, winning a small gold medal in the snatch and a small bronze medal in the clean and jerk. Sahakyan missed the overall total victory by just 2 kg.
In the snatch, he successfully lifted 147 kg and 150 kg. In the clean and jerk, he managed to secure 180 kg, but his attempts at 185 kg were unsuccessful.
Final Results (Men’s 71 kg):
Yusuf Genç (Turkey) — 332 kg (147+185)
Gor Sahakyan (Armenia) — 330 kg (150+180)
Egor Popov (Belarus) — 328 kg (145+183)
Thus, Gor Sahakyan now has two gold and two silver medals from European Championships in his career.
After three days of competition in Batumi, the Armenian national team has won three silver medals: Garnik Cholakyan (60 kg), Gor Sahakyan (71 kg), and Alexandra Grigoryan (58 kg).
