Gor Sahakyan – Silver Medalist at the 2025 European Weightlifting Championships

Armenian weightlifter Gor Sahakyan won the silver medal at the 2025 European Weightlifting Championships in the 73 kg weight category.

The 21-year-old athlete took second place in the total with 338 kg (153 kg in the snatch and 185 kg in the clean and jerk) at the tournament held in Chișinău. He also earned two small bronze medals in the individual lifts.

This result marked the best performance of Sahakyan’s career, as he improved his personal record by 7 kg. Previously, Gor had twice been crowned European champion in the 67 kg category.

The gold medal went to Turkish lifter Yusuf Genç, who totaled 348 kg (154+194). Genç set a new European record in the clean and jerk with 194 kg and equaled the continental record in the total.

The bronze medal was claimed by Roberto Gutu of Germany with a total of 335 kg (155+180). Another Turkish lifter, Mohammed Furkan, who was considered a tournament favorite, failed to register a snatch result but secured a small silver medal in the clean and jerk.
