Weightlifter Gor Minasyan has won the 2026 Asian Weightlifting Championships in the +110 kg weight category.
The tournament took place in India, where the 31-year-old athlete from Armenia, who represents Bahrain, claimed the Asian champion title for the third time in his career.
Minasyan confidently won the competition in the total, lifting 457 kg. His main rival was Iran’s Alireza Yousefi, who delivered an impressive performance in the clean and jerk and set a world record by lifting 261 kg. However, in the combined total of the two lifts, Gor remained out of reach for his competitors.
For comparison, Minasyan’s result at the Asian Championships was 6 kg higher than the total with which Varazdat Lalayan had earlier become European champion. At the same time, it should be noted that Lalayan competed at the European Championships with almost no serious competition.
As a result, Gor Minasyan once again confirmed his status as one of the strongest super-heavyweights in the world and brought Bahrain a gold medal at the continental championship.
