The first matchday of the Champions League main stage brought fans bright emotions, unexpected results, and plenty of goals.
The main sensation — Qarabağ’s away victory over Benfica (3:2). The visitors managed to turn the game around and pulled off one of the most remarkable upsets of the round.
Belgian debutant Union Saint-Gilloise started their campaign in style, beating PSV in Eindhoven (3:1).
In Turin, the spectators witnessed a true football spectacle: Juventus and Borussia Dortmund engaged in a shootout, scoring eight goals in one half! The match ended in a dramatic 4:4 draw, with Juventus scoring twice in stoppage time. Dušan Vlahović netted twice and assisted Lloyd Kelly’s equalizer in the 96th minute.
Real Madrid secured a hard-fought victory over Marseille (2:1), despite being down to ten men after Dani Carvajal’s red card. Kylian Mbappé scored the winning goal from the penalty spot in the 81st minute.
Arsenal started confidently, beating Athletic Bilbao away (2:0). Tottenham edged Villarreal with a narrow 1:0 win.
