Cyprus National Team Head Coach Comments on Being Drawn in Group with Armenia

Cyprus national football team head coach Apostolos Mantzios commented on the results of the UEFA Nations League 2026/27 draw, which placed his team in the same group as Armenia, Montenegro, and the winner of the Latvia — Gibraltar pairing.

“We already know our opponents. We have immense respect for all the teams. From this moment on, we want to continue the changes we have introduced to the national team — both in terms of its image and playing style. In this tournament, we aim to play a leading role and not merely be a team that influences the distribution of places in the group,” said the Brussels-based specialist.

Mantzios emphasized that the team has set serious objectives for the upcoming tournament.

When asked whether it is time for this squad to have specific goals, the coach responded affirmatively: “Absolutely, we must have goals. By setting objectives, you improve and become even better.”

It is worth noting that the Nations League matches will serve as an important stage of preparation for the next qualification cycles and provide an opportunity to compete for a place at EURO 2028.
