19-year-old Armenian wrestler Gaspar Terteryan (72 kg) has advanced to the final of the U20 World Championship in Greco-Roman wrestling, held in Istanbul.
On his way to the final, Terteryan defeated Azerbaijan’s Seymur Gasymov (6:2), U20 Asian champion Yussuf Ashrapov from Kazakhstan (3:1), and in the quarterfinals overcame local wrestler Sergey Stoev (3:1).
In the semifinals, Terteryan confidently beat Greece’s Arionas Kalitsopoulos with a score of 5:1. In the decisive match, which will take place tomorrow, his opponent will be reigning U20 Asian champion Ahmad Kodirov from Uzbekistan.
This is not Terteryan’s first world final. In 2023, he also fought for U20 gold but lost to Egypt’s Mustafa Alameldin. A year earlier, Terteryan became U17 World Champion.
It should be noted that another Armenian wrestler, Yurik Mkhitaryan (60 kg), will also compete in the World Championship final today.
