On August 22, at the U20 World Championship in Greco-Roman wrestling held in Bulgaria, four representatives of Armenia competed. The best result was shown by Gaspar Terteryan (72 kg), who advanced to the semifinals of the tournament.
On his way to the top four, Terteryan confidently defeated Azerbaijan’s Seymour Gasimov (6:2), Asian U20 champion Yussuf Ashrapov from Kazakhstan (3:1), and in the quarterfinals overcame home wrestler Sergey Stoev (3:1).
In the semifinals, the Armenian wrestler will face Arionas Kolitsopoulos (Greece) — bronze medalist of the latest U20 and U23 European Championships, as well as U17 World Champion 2023. It is worth noting that at the U20 European Championship in June this year, Terteryan already defeated the Greek athlete 2:1.
The other Armenian wrestlers — Armen Gevorgyan (55 kg), Narek Grigoryan (67 kg), and Grisha Voskanyan (97 kg) — lost their opening matches.
The semifinals will take place today at 18:00 Yerevan time. Right after, the finals in yesterday’s categories will be held. There, Armenia will be represented by Yurik Mkhitaryan (60 kg), who will fight for gold, and Martik Petrosyan (82 kg), who reached the bronze medal bout.
