FIFA Series 2026: What This Tournament Is and Where Armenia Might Play

The FIFA Series 2026 is set to become the second official edition of FIFA’s international friendly match initiative. Launched to encourage cross-confederation football and expand global competitive opportunities, the project allows national teams to face opponents they would rarely meet in traditional regional competitions. For many countries, it offers a chance to encounter new styles, gain valuable experience, and strengthen their football development programs.

The pilot edition of the FIFA Series took place in 2024 and was widely regarded as a success. Following this, FIFA President Gianni Infantino officially confirmed at the May 2024 Congress in Bangkok that the expanded, full-format tournament will be held in 2026.

The FIFA Series is designed as a modern alternative to conventional friendly matches.

The 2026 edition will consist of eight mini-tournaments, each featuring four national teams.

• Matches will be played during the international window March 23–31, 2026, with some fixtures extending into April.

• Each team will play two international matches against opponents of similar competitive level, with a focus on cross-confederation encounters.

• For the first time, a women’s FIFA Series will also be launched in 2026, with tournaments planned in Brazil, Côte d’Ivoire, and Thailand.

• Stimulating technical progress by exposing teams to new tactical and stylistic approaches

FIFA has already confirmed the eight host nations:

• Indonesia
• Kazakhstan
• Mauritius
• Puerto Rico
• Rwanda
• Uzbekistan

More host countries may be added in the coming months.

Mini-Tournament Lineups: What’s Official So Far

To date, only one group has been formally announced — the Puerto Rico mini-tournament, which will feature:

• American Samoa
• Guam
• Puerto Rico
• U.S. Virgin Islands

FIFA has not yet revealed the participating teams for the other seven mini-tournaments.

What Armenian Fans Should Know: Armenia’s Potential Participation

According to unconfirmed reports, Armenia may participate in the Indonesia-hosted mini-series. The tentative lineup includes:

• Armenia

• Zimbabwe

• Indonesia (host)

• A fourth team yet to be announced — potentially from CONCACAF or Oceania

If confirmed, this would be a noteworthy development for Armenian football—a rare opportunity to compete against teams from other confederations and gain experience outside UEFA’s usual competitive structure.
