Ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifier against the Republic of Ireland, which will take place on October 14 in Dublin, Armenian national team defender Erik Piloyan shared his expectations for the upcoming match.
“We have worked very hard to improve our defensive play. We’ll do everything to win against Ireland. We’ve already done it once — we played very well in Yerevan, and we’ll try to repeat that result. It’s a great honor for me to play for the Armenian national team. This is the greatest achievement of my career — to serve my country,” said Piloyan.
The footballer also thanked the fans for their support:
“It’s great to see our fans travel to away matches. We play for them.”
According to the defender, the upcoming match won’t be easy:
“I think this game will be different from the one in Yerevan. Ireland will be playing at home, in front of their fans — it will be a very interesting match. We’ll try to play even better than in the first game.”
It’s worth recalling that in the first meeting between the teams in Yerevan, Armenia won 2–1.
