Emma Poghosyan — 2026 European Champion with a Record and Perfect Performance

19-year-old Armenian weightlifter Emma Poghosyan delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 European Championships, becoming the winner in the women’s 86 kg weight category.

Poghosyan demonstrated a flawless performance, successfully completing all six attempts. As a result, she won gold in the total with 248 kg (107 kg in snatch + 141 kg in clean and jerk), setting a new European junior record.

In addition, Emma won a small gold medal in the clean and jerk and a small bronze in the snatch, confirming her status as one of the most promising athletes on the continent.

Results — Women’s 86 kg Category

  • Emma Poghosyan (Armenia) — 248 kg (107 + 141)
  • Yana Sotieva (Russia) — 247 kg (112 + 135)
  • Madias Ngake (Great Britain) — 240 kg (111 + 129)
  • Natia Godelia (Georgia) — 237 kg (106 + 131)
  • Liana Gyurjyan (Armenia) — 236 kg (101 + 135)

Special mention goes to Liana Gyurjyan, who won a small silver medal in the clean and jerk and finished fifth overall.

Armenia Team Success

The European Championships in Batumi are going successfully for the Armenian team. At the moment, the team has:

  • 1 gold medal
  • 4 silver medals
  • 1 bronze medal
