Armenian tennis player Elina Avanesyan (WTA 39) confidently began her campaign at the prestigious WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells (California, USA). In the first round, she secured a victory over American Lauren Davis (WTA 232) with a score of 6:4, 6:2.
Avanesyan controlled the match, demonstrating great consistency on return and converting 7 out of 14 break points. Despite Davis having a slight edge in first-serve percentage (73% vs. 66%), Elina managed to win 50% of points on her first serve and 69% on her second, which played a key role in her victory.
This success allowed Avanesyan to advance to the second round, where she will face Croatian Donna Vekić (WTA 22).
The Indian Wells tournament is considered one of the most prestigious events in the tennis calendar, and a strong performance here could significantly boost Avanesyan’s ranking in the world standings.
