Eduard Spertsyan opens up on back problems ahead of the most important match of the season

Krasnodar captain and Armenia national team midfielder Eduard Spertsyan has commented on his physical condition following the end of the Russian Premier League season. In an interview with Match TV, the player admitted that he had been dealing with back problems in recent weeks and had barely trained before the final-round match against Orenburg.

In the 30th round of the RPL, Krasnodar claimed a confident 3-0 home victory over Orenburg. However, it was not enough to win the title: in the parallel match, Zenit defeated Rostov 1-0 and retained first place. The Saint Petersburg club finished the season with 68 points, while Krasnodar collected 66 points and became the silver medalist of the Russian championship.

After the match, Krasnodar head coach Murad Musaev said that Spertsyan had barely trained before the game against Orenburg. The midfielder himself confirmed that the reason was pain in his lower back.

According to Spertsyan, the discomfort appeared before the match against Dynamo Moscow. The footballer noted that he played that game despite the pain, while before the final league match he was given a short pause to reduce the load and allow his back to recover.

“Yes. The day before the match against Dynamo, I felt problems in my lower back. I somehow managed to play that game, and before the match against Orenburg I was given a short break so that the pain could calm down,” Spertsyan said.

The main intrigue now is whether the Krasnodar captain will be able to take part in the Russian Cup Super Final against Spartak, which will take place on May 24. Asked about the risk of missing the upcoming match, Spertsyan responded cautiously but with optimism, expressing hope that everything would be fine by the time of the game.

For the Armenia national team, Eduard Spertsyan’s condition is especially important. The midfielder remains one of the team’s key players, a leader in the attacking line and the captain of his club. His role is significant not only in terms of football quality, but also as one of the main leaders in the dressing room.

Despite the frustrating end to the title race, Krasnodar’s season turned out to be one of the brightest in the club’s history. The team fought for the championship until the final round and will now try to end the football year with a Russian Cup trophy. Spertsyan’s participation in the match against Spartak could become one of the key factors for Murad Musaev’s side.
