According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, French midfielder Matteo Gendouzi is leaving Roma’s Lazio and moving to Turkish club Fenerbahçe for €29 million.
Now Lazio is urgently looking for a replacement for their leader. Italian media are discussing two main candidates: Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Eduard Spertsyan.
The value of both players is roughly the same—around €20 million—but the Englishman has higher salary demands, and AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri does not intend to release his versatile player.
As for Spertsyan’s potential move to Italy, the rumors should be treated with caution. In recent years, many similar reports have surfaced, but no actual offers from Italian clubs have ever materialized. Nevertheless, Gendouzi’s departure significantly increases the Armenian captain’s chances of a transfer.
An alternative scenario is also possible: Loftus-Cheek could move to Lazio while Spertsyan joins Milan, although for now this remains speculative.
It is worth noting that Italian clubs have already shown interest in Spertsyan this winter. Additionally, the Armenian and Krasnodar captain met with Zlatan Ibrahimović, an AC Milan official, while on vacation in Dubai. Though the meeting seemed casual, it opens potential transfer opportunities.
One thing is certain—this winter, Lazio will definitely sign a central midfielder; it remains to be seen who exactly.
The Roman club had previously struggled financially, so Lazio made no transfers in the summer. But after the sales of Taty Castellanos and Matteo Guendouzi (both for €29 million), the situation is improving.
