The 21-year-old central midfielder of Armenian descent, Edmond Gukasian, has transferred from "Vasalunds" to "Assyriska FF", which plays in the same Swedish third division where he previously competed.
Last season, Gukasian scored 3 goals and provided 1 assist in 24 matches for "Vasalunds" in the third tier of Swedish football (Ettan Norra). In total, he spent three seasons with the team.
Edmond Gukasian is a defensive-minded midfielder but also provides strong attacking support.
"I am an experienced midfielder and can play in all three central positions—six, eight, or ten. But I prefer playing as a six. I like to have a lot of possession, I am technically skilled, use both feet, and am intelligent in my play," the footballer told Assyriska's official website.
"Last year, when we faced Assyriska, I felt that this was something special. It wasn’t just another game—the atmosphere in the stands was intense, and on the field, it was a battle. That left an impression on me. When the season ended and Nemrud called me, I didn’t have to think long. I trained with the team, everything was good, and after that, it was just a matter of signing the contract," Gukasian added.
Assyriska FF was founded in 1974 by descendants of Assyrians who fled the Ottoman Empire during the genocide of 1915. The team played in the second league Superettan for a long time and only once reached Alsvenskan in 2005, but was relegated in the same season and never returned. It is worth noting that former Armenian national team footballer Levon Pachajyan played for this team from 2013 to 2015.
