Bellingham brace sends England into World Cup 2026 semifinals after comeback win over Norway

England have reached the semifinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after securing a 2-1 comeback victory over Norway in extra time in their quarterfinal clash.

Norway opened the scoring through Andreas Schjelderup. The 22-year-old unleashed a powerful strike that went in off the post. After providing two assists against Brazil in the previous round, Schjelderup produced another decisive contribution with an impressive finish.

England equalized thanks to a brilliant individual effort from Jude Bellingham. Anthony Gordon advanced down the left wing and found the Real Madrid midfielder, who worked his way past two defenders before firing a powerful left-footed shot into the net.

Bellingham also scored the winning goal. Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland was unable to hold a long-range effort, allowing the England midfielder to react first and convert the rebound to send his team into the semifinals.

It was Bellingham’s second consecutive brace at the World Cup. England also became the first nation in the tournament’s history to have two players score at least six goals each in a single edition of the FIFA World Cup. Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane have both reached that mark.

England will face the winner of the Argentina vs Switzerland quarterfinal in the World Cup 2026 semifinals.
