Legendary Armenian MMA and kickboxing fighter David Khachatryan delivered a successful performance at the HYPE Armenia tournament, which took place on December 30 in Yerevan. In a main card bout preceding Arman Tsarukyan’s grappling match, Khachatryan put on an exciting bare-knuckle fight against Dagestan’s Abubakar Mamedov.
By the time “The Emperor” entered the octagon, five Armenian fighters had already secured victories at the event, and David continued to delight the home crowd with a confident showing. The fight was intense and entertaining: in the second round, Khachatryan knocked his opponent down several times, forcing the referee to stop the contest.
The victory was awarded to David Khachatryan by technical knockout in the second round. This marked the ninth bare-knuckle win of “The Emperor’s” career. Renowned kickboxer Marat Grigorian worked in Khachatryan’s corner, assisting him throughout the fight.
After the bout, David admitted that competing on home soil is especially challenging for him:
“Fighting in your own country comes with huge responsibility and strong emotions. But the support of the fans gives me strength,” Khachatryan said.
Fans at HYPE Armenia can still look forward to the main fights of the evening:
Lendrush “Leko” Hakobyan — Amirkhan “White Lion” Oev
Timur “Lucky” Abdurakhmanov — Ibragim “Nikarho” Islamov
Gennady “Motivator” Makaryan — Shamil “Black Prince” Gasanbekov
The tournament in Yerevan continues to gain momentum and promises many more thrilling matchups.
