27-year-old Armenian midfielder David Davidyan had a brilliant debut for Volgograd’s Rotor, delivering the decisive assist in the First League (FNL) opener against Volga Ulyanovsk.
The former Pyunik Yerevan player came on in the 59th minute with the score tied at 1–1, taking up the right winger position. In the 81st minute, Davidyan earned a corner and took it himself — his cross resulted in a goal by Kleshchenko that secured the win. Final score: 2–1 in favor of Rotor.
Notably, Davidyan's relative — Artyom Simonyan (his sister’s husband’s brother) — also joined Rotor this summer but was not included in the squad for the Volga match. Simonyan previously played for SKA-Khabarovsk.
Thus, Davidyan recorded a goal contribution in his very first match, helping Rotor start the season with a victory.
