On July 28, the first finals of the 2026 U17 Greco-Roman Wrestling World Championships were held in Baku. On the second day of competition, the champions and medalists were determined in five weight categories: 48 kg, 55 kg, 65 kg, 80 kg, and 110 kg. The finalists in five additional weight categories were also decided, with the gold-medal bouts scheduled for July 29.

Team Armenia won its first medal of the tournament. Ararat Avetisyan claimed bronze in the 48 kg weight category after confidently defeating Hungary’s Benedek Tombor 8–0 in the decisive bout.

Another Armenian representative, Janes Nazaryan, advanced to the final of the 71 kg weight category. He will face Russia’s Aslan Dzuev in the gold-medal bout.

In addition, Vazgen Vardanyan and Gevorg Harutyunyan earned the opportunity to continue competing for bronze medals in the repechage round.
