The 2026 IWF World Youth Championships began on July 6 in Cali, Colombia. On the opening day of the competition, medals were awarded in three weight categories: boys’ 56 kg, as well as girls’ 44 kg and 48 kg.
The main star of the opening day was 13-year-old Rory van Ulft, who represents Aruba. In the 44 kg category, she won three gold medals — in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total — and also set two youth world records.
For van Ulft, this was her international weightlifting debut. She won gold with her very first attempt and then confirmed her success with two more victories.
