2026 European Boxing Championships in Sofia: Day 3 results

2026 European Boxing Championships in Sofia: Day 3 results
Boxing

The third day of the 2026 European Boxing Championships for men and women, held under World Boxing, took place in Sofia on September 19. The third competition day featured bouts in the Round of 16 and Round of 32.

Three members of the Armenian national team entered the ring. Elida Kocharyan (65 kg) stopped Albania’s Esmeralda Novruzaj and advanced to the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Egine Petrosyan (48 kg) lost 0-5 to Spain’s Marta Lopez del Arbol and was eliminated from the tournament.

Among the Armenian men, only Zhirayr Sargsyan (55 kg) competed on the day. The Armenian boxer lost 0-3 to Azerbaijan’s Amin Mamedzada. However, the judging raised questions: Sargsyan scored a knockdown already in the opening round, but even that round was not awarded to the Armenian by the majority of the judges.

As a result, nine representatives of the Armenian national team — seven men and two women — remain in contention at the European Championships. Rafael Hovhannisyan (85 kg), Harutyun Akopkokhyan (70 kg), Zhirayr Sargsyan (55 kg) and Egine Petrosyan (48 kg) have already completed their campaigns.
