Aston Villa win the Europa League after thrashing Freiburg in the final

Aston Villa have won the 2025/26 UEFA Europa League. In the final, the Birmingham club produced a confident performance to beat Germany’s Freiburg 3-0 and claim the European trophy.

Unai Emery’s side decided the outcome of the match thanks to goals from Youri Tielemans, Emiliano Buendía and Morgan Rogers. For Aston Villa, it was a historic night: the English club went all the way in the competition and ended the season in brilliant fashion with a European triumph.

The first half was not easy for the favorites. Freiburg played actively, tried to impose their game and kept the intrigue alive for a long time. However, just before the break, Aston Villa struck twice. First, Youri Tielemans opened the scoring with a spectacular volley, before Emiliano Buendía doubled the Birmingham side’s lead with a fine finish.

After the interval, Aston Villa fully controlled the match. The English team played calmly, kept possession with confidence and gave Freiburg almost no chance to get back into the game. Morgan Rogers eventually sealed the final, scoring Villa’s third goal and setting the final score at 3-0.

After the final whistle, Villa’s players were overcome with emotion. Goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez dropped to his knees with tears in his eyes, then stood up and shouted: “Vamos!”

After the match, Youri Tielemans said the team had completed a big season and deserved this success.

“We worked incredibly hard today and showed a top level. We’ve had a great season, and to finish it like this is unbelievable,” Tielemans told TNT Sports.

The midfielder also stressed that the road to the trophy had not been easy:

“It was a season with a lot of ups and downs. The way we came back after a difficult start was magnificent. Huge credit to the players and the coaching staff. We kept working, kept believing — and in the end we got our reward.”

Morgan Rogers, who scored the third goal, was also one of the heroes of the night. After the game, he described the victory as a special moment for the club and its supporters.

“It’s hard to find the words. We worked so hard for this. We knew there was one final decisive test left and we had to give everything. That’s exactly what we did. It’s a special moment for the fans and for the whole club,” Rogers said.

The final was also special for Unai Emery. The Spanish coach recorded his 108th victory in charge of Aston Villa, surpassing his personal record for most wins at a single club, previously set during his time at Valencia.

Tottenham won the Europa League a year ago, and now the trophy has returned to England once again — this time to Birmingham. Aston Villa completed their European campaign with a triumph and wrote a new bright chapter in the club’s history.
