Vahan Bichakhchyan’s decisive contribution was the turning point in the second-leg match of the Europa League second qualifying round against Czech side Baník.
After a 2-2 away draw, Warsaw’s Legia secured a 2-1 home victory and advanced to the next stage of the tournament, where they will face Cyprus’ AEK Larnaca.
Jean-Pierre Nsame opened the scoring for the Polish team, while Erik Prekop netted Baník’s only goal. The winning goal came in the 74th minute following Bichakhchyan’s active play: the Armenian midfielder delivered an accurate pass to Morishita, leading to a goal, which was later recorded as an own goal by the Czech club.
Vahan Bichakhchyan started the match in the starting lineup and was substituted in the 77th minute.
It is worth noting that in the first qualifying round, Vahan Bichakhchyan scored the winning goal against Aktobe.
On July 31, other Armenian national team players also featured in European competitions (besides the Armenian clubs):
Georgi Harutyunyan and Puskás Akadémia ended their European campaign with two defeats against Cyprus’ Aris (aggregate 2-5). Aleksandr Kokorin and his teammates left no chance for the Hungarian side. For Harutyunyan, it was his debut European season. In both matches against Aris, the Armenian national team defender was in the starting lineup and played 74 and 72 minutes respectively.
Artur Serobyan and Sheriff are still on their European journey. The Moldovan side lost twice to Utrecht from the Netherlands in the Europa League (aggregate 2-7) but will now face Belgian side Anderlecht in the third round of the Europa Conference League.
