Ashik Andreyan Qualifies for the 2025 Judo World Championship

Armenian judoka Ashik Andreyan, competing in the under 60 kg weight category, has secured his spot at the 2025 Judo World Championship, which will take place from June 13 to 19 in Budapest, the capital of Hungary.
The 21-year-old athlete, who currently ranks 71st in the world rankings, has made it into the top 100 — a necessary condition for participating in the world championship. Andreyan became the only representative of Armenia to earn the required ranking points. This will mark his debut at a world championship.
His successful performance at the 2025 European Championship, where he placed fifth, was decisive in earning the qualification for Budapest and significantly improved his ranking.
It is worth noting that Armenia was not represented at the previous world championship. The last Armenian judoka to compete at the world stage was Ferdinand Karapetyan (73 kg) in 2023. Armenia’s only medal at a world championship remains a bronze, won by Hovhannes Davtyan in 2009.
