The United World Wrestling (UWW) asked top freestyle wrestlers who they would like to face in a supermatch. Armenian athlete Arsen Harutyunyan immediately named the Olympic champion.
“If we don’t consider weight classes, I would like to wrestle against Jordan Burroughs,” Arutyunyan said.
Burroughs, 37, is the 2012 Olympic champion and a six-time world champion at 74 and 79 kg. His last appearance for the U.S. national team was at the 2024 World Championships at 79 kg, where he finished 9th.
Other wrestlers also shared their preferences:
-
Zahid Valencia chose Abdulrashid Sadulaev.
-
Amir Zare named Kyle Snyder or Gable Stevenson.
-
Rei Higuchi would like to face Rahman Amouzad or Zaurbek Sidakov.
-
Zaurbek Sidakov chose Kota Takahashi.
These answers show that among top wrestlers, there is strong interest in “supermatches” outside the usual weight classes — a true dream for freestyle wrestling fans.
