Armenian figure skater Semyon Danilyants, as well as the pair Karina Akopova / Nikita Rakhmanin, will not take part in the 2026 European Figure Skating Championships — one of the key tournaments of the season. This was reported by the Armenian Figure Skating Federation.
According to the official statement, despite all required documents being submitted on time, the UK embassy failed to issue entry visas to the athletes within the established deadlines. As a result, the Armenian national team was deprived of the opportunity to participate in the European Championships.
The federation emphasized that the situation has dealt a serious blow to the athletes’ seasonal preparation, competitive development, and international ranking positions. Years of hard work, preparation, and dedication should not depend on administrative delays.
The Armenian Figure Skating Federation stated that it is taking all possible measures to prevent similar situations in the future and to protect the rights of its athletes. The organization also expressed gratitude to everyone who continues to support the national team during this difficult period.
“We will continue our fight for worthy representation of Armenian figure skating on the international stage,” the federation’s statement said.
The European Championships are taking place in Sheffield, England, from January 13 to 18.
It should be noted that the pair Karina Akopova / Nikita Rakhmanin had previously secured an Olympic quota and will compete at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina, scheduled for February 6–22.
