Armenian Chess Players Start Their Campaign at the European Women’s Championship in Batumi

Armenian female chess players have started their campaign at the 2026 European Women’s Individual Chess Championship, which is taking place in Batumi, Georgia. The tournament is being played in an 11-round Swiss system format.
Several Armenian representatives began the championship with victories in the opening round. Lilit Mkrtchian, Mariam Mkrtchyan, Polina Kobak and Nvard Hayrapetyan all won their first-round games.
Four more Armenian chess players shared the point in their opening matches. Elina Danielian, Sona Krkyasharyan, Ani Avetisyan and Anna Khachatryan drew their first-round games.
Armenia is represented at the tournament by a large delegation of 16 players:

The European Women’s Individual Chess Championship runs from May 25 to June 5. The event consists of 11 rounds and is played in classical chess format.
The start of the tournament can be considered quite positive for the Armenian players. Four wins and four draws in the first round give Armenia’s representatives a solid foundation to fight for high places from the early stages of the championship.
