The Armenian Premier League resumed after the winter break with matches of the 17th round. In one of the central games of the day, Urartu dropped points after drawing 2–2 with Gandzasar.
The visitors unexpectedly played a confident first half and went into the break with a two-goal advantage. Japanese defender Shunto Kanada opened the scoring, and later Benin national team midfielder Mariano Ahouangbo doubled Gandzasar’s lead.
After the break, Urartu quickly got back into the game. Defender Anton Bratkov reduced the deficit, and Armenia national team midfielder Narek Aghasaryan soon equalized with a spectacular long-range strike.
Despite strong pressure from the hosts in the closing minutes, Urartu failed to secure the win.
After the draw, Urartu sits second in the standings with 30 points, four points behind the leaders Ararat-Armenia, who also have a game in hand.
Gandzasar, after 17 rounds, is in eighth place with 11 points.
