Armenia wins three medals after the first U20 European Freestyle Wrestling finals

The Armenian national team won three medals following the first finals of the 2026 U20 European Freestyle Wrestling Championships in Skopje. Armenia’s medal tally now includes one silver and two bronze medals.

Aren Hayrapetyan claimed the silver medal in the 65 kg weight category. In the final, the Armenian wrestler suffered a 2–5 defeat against Moldova’s Ivan Dimov.

Hayrapetyan recorded three victories on his way to the final. He defeated Georgia’s Tengiz Barbakadze 11–8 in the round of 16, beat Hungary’s Adam Laczlo 16–9 in the quarterfinals and overcame Azerbaijan’s Bashir Verdiyev 6–5 in the semifinals.

Sasha Petrosyan won a bronze medal in the 57 kg category. In the third-place bout, the Armenian wrestler defeated Georgia’s Giorgi Tsuriashvili 5–1.

Narek Nikoghosyan became Armenia’s second bronze medalist, taking the podium in the 79 kg category. In the medal bout against Azerbaijan’s Eljan Ismailzada, Nikoghosyan was trailing 5–10 but managed to pin his opponent and secure an early victory.

Armenia therefore has three medals after the first finals of the U20 European Championships — one silver and two bronze.

Another Armenian representative, Razmik Yepremyan, will compete in the 86 kg final on July 12. Several other Armenian wrestlers also remain in contention for bronze medals.
