Armenia second, Russia first: results of the U20 European Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships

The 2026 U20 European Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships concluded in Skopje on July 8. On the final competition day, five more sets of medals were awarded, after which the final team standings of the tournament were confirmed.

Russia confidently won the team standings with 175 points. Russian wrestlers claimed 4 gold and 5 bronze medals. The only weight category in which Russia did not win a medal was 55 kg, where the team had no representative. At the same time, Russian wrestlers won all four finals in which they competed, as well as all five bronze-medal bouts.

Armenia finished second in the team standings with 126 points. This is an excellent result for the Armenian team, although the tournament also showed the areas where more work is needed.

Armenia had three gold-medal finals and four bronze-medal bouts. Out of seven decisive matches, Armenian wrestlers won two: Samvel Terteryan became European champion in the 77 kg weight category, while Yurik Petrosyan won bronze at 87 kg. As a result, Armenia finished the championship with 1 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal.

Ukraine took third place in the team standings with 117 points. Ukrainian wrestlers won 2 gold medals. Representatives of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Hungary also claimed one gold medal each.
