In just a few days, Armenia will host an unprecedented event in the country’s sports history — the final round of the U16 Men’s European Volleyball Championship (EuroVolleyU16M). The tournament will take place from July 23 to August 3 in Yerevan and will be the first of its kind ever held in Armenia.
Ahead of the competition, a festive event was held on Northern Avenue in Yerevan with the participation of Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Asmik Avagyan, Secretary General of the Armenian Volleyball Federation, Karen Asmaryan, members of the national youth team, coaches, and fans.
Asmik Avagyan congratulated everyone on the upcoming championship and emphasized the efforts made by the federation and the team:
“In just a few days, the sports world will turn its attention to the U16 European Volleyball Championship in Yerevan, where our athletes will become the main protagonists. I am confident the team is ready to compete, and the organizers are fully prepared to host the tournament at the highest level,” she said.
She also noted that hosting such international events aligns with Armenia’s national policy of promoting sports and enhances the country’s visibility on the global stage.
Karen Asmaryan, in turn, emphasized that the Armenian Volleyball Federation had been preparing for the tournament for nearly three years:
“This is an unprecedented event for volleyball in Armenia. We’ve done everything possible to represent our country with dignity. I extend special thanks to the coaches, the Ministry, and the Yerevan Municipality for their support. We hope for strong fan support and a successful performance by our team.”
Sixteen teams will participate in the tournament, including Armenia. In Group I, the Armenian team will play against Austria, Greece, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, and Spain. Group II will feature Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Italy, Serbia, Turkey, and Ukraine.
All 60 matches will be held at two venues — the “Gazprom Armenia” Sports Complex and the sports hall of the Russian-Armenian University.
The EuroVolleyU16M final round in Yerevan is not only a chance for young athletes to showcase their talent on the international stage, but also a significant step forward for Armenian sports as a whole.
