Before the Armenia–Portugal match, the presidents of the football federations of the two countries, Armen Melikbekyan and Pedro Proença, signed a memorandum on the development of Armenian-Portuguese football.
“This is my first time in Armenia, and I was pleasantly surprised by the warm hospitality of the Football Federation of Armenia. This document will mark the beginning of our close cooperation, and we will bring the secrets of Portuguese football to Armenia,” said Pedro Proença, President of the Portuguese Football Federation.
The agreement provides for joint tournaments, seminars, and educational courses. The cooperation will also cover areas such as the construction of sports infrastructure and academies, sports medicine, the introduction of modern technologies in the training process, as well as the education of coaches and physiotherapists.
“Of course, we can greatly benefit from this memorandum. The most important thing is Portugal’s experience, where youth development is very well organized and strong football academies are operating. In addition, the Portuguese experience will help us establish a Professional Football League,” emphasized Armen Melikbekyan, President of the Football Federation of Armenia.
The sides also agreed to organize friendly matches involving the national football and futsal teams.
