At the 2025 European Sambo Championships in Limassol, Cyprus, Armenian sambist Arman Avanesyan achieved an outstanding result. In the 98 kg weight category in combat sambo, he won the gold medal, defeating Croatian Marino Duganjic 9:1 in the final.
For Avanesyan, this is his second European Championship title — he previously won the continental title in 2023. On his way to the new title, he confidently defeated Ukrainian Evgeny Makarov, and in the semifinals, he left no chance for the reigning European champion, Magomed Gasanov from Russia, winning 8:0.
In addition to Avanesyan's gold, the Armenian team added two more bronze medals on the second competition day. Davit Ovsepyan took third place in the 58 kg category in sports sambo, while Artur Malkhasyan earned bronze in the 79 kg category in combat sambo.
The day before, bronze medals were won by Mger Merjanyan (71 kg), Avetik Poghosyan (88 kg), and Hamlet Sukiasyan (58 kg), bringing the Armenian team's total medal count to six: 1 gold and 5 bronze.
Tomorrow, the European Youth Sambo Championship kicks off in Limassol, and the Armenian team is ready to continue their successful performances.
