Ararat-Armenia and Alashkert failed to produce a winner in the headline fixture of Matchday 9 of the Armenian Premier League. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with both goals scored in the first half.
Armenian national team midfielder Artur Serobyan opened the scoring in the 27th minute, netting his first league goal of the season.
However, Ararat-Armenia's lead lasted just six minutes. In the 33rd minute, Alashkert's foreign striker Jores Massoumou equalized with his seventh goal of the campaign. The goal brought Massoumou level with Elder Ferreira in the Armenian Premier League's top scorers' standings.
Neither team managed to break the deadlock in the second half, meaning both sides dropped two valuable points in the race for the top positions.
The draw benefits their rivals, Noah and Pyunik, who now have an opportunity to capitalize on the dropped points in the league standings.
After nine rounds, Ararat-Armenia sit second in the table with 20 points, while Alashkert occupy fourth place with 16 points.
Ararat-Armenia's next match will come on the European stage. On October 15, the Armenian club will face Polish side Jagiellonia away from home in the UEFA Europa League.
