England make powerful World Cup 2026 start with 4-2 win over Croatia

England made a confident start to their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, beating Croatia 4-2 in the opening round of the group stage.
Thomas Tuchel’s side produced an impressive performance and were especially strong in the second half, when they finally took control of the match. Harry Kane was the main hero of the game with a brace, while Jude Bellingham and substitute Marcus Rashford also scored for England.
Croatia responded through goals from Musa and Baturina, while Dominik Livaković’s superb saves helped keep the team in the game for a long time. However, after the break England raised the tempo, moved up a gear and secured the victory.
Kane’s double was a special milestone. The striker has now drawn level with Gary Lineker for England World Cup goals. Kane has scored 10 goals at the finals.
Ghana and Panama also play in this group. Their match will take place later today.
The win over Croatia was a strong statement from England at the start of the tournament. Tuchel’s team showed already in their first match that they have the level of performance to match their title ambitions.
