Hakob Sharbatyan Crowned European U17 Boxing Champion After Thrilling Final Against Romanian Opponent

Armenian boxer Hakob Sharbatyan has won the gold medal at the European U17 Boxing Championships, currently taking place in Budva, Montenegro.
In the 50 kg final, the Armenian representative faced Romania's Alexandru Butan. The bout was closely contested, but Sharbatyan managed to convince the majority of judges that he had done enough to win, securing a 3–2 split-decision victory.
As a result, the Armenian boxer claimed the gold medal and became the European U17 champion.
Hakob Sharbatyan's Road to the Gold Medal
Throughout the tournament in Budva, Sharbatyan displayed confident boxing skills and overcame each opponent on his way to the title.
In the quarterfinals, the Armenian boxer defeated Ukraine's Makar Honchar 4–1, guaranteeing himself at least a bronze medal.
In the semifinals, Sharbatyan faced Poland's Piotr Dwojacki and delivered a convincing performance. The Armenian controlled the bout and even knocked his opponent down in the second round.
The final against Alexandru Butan proved to be a much tougher challenge, but Sharbatyan managed to achieve his ultimate goal — victory and the European gold medal.
Hakob Sharbatyan emerged as one of Armenia's standout performers at the 2026 European U17 Boxing Championships.
Another Armenian boxer, Romik Harutyunyan (66 kg), also reached the final and is competing for a gold medal. Meanwhile, Eduard Karamyan (60 kg) had already secured a bronze medal for Armenia.
