Abdulrashid Sadulaev, rightly nicknamed "The Dagestan Tank," has once again found himself at the center of the global sports community's attention. One of the most decorated wrestlers in the history of freestyle wrestling is approaching the threshold beyond which awaits the repetition of a unique achievement: a seventh world championship title.
To date, Sadulaev has six gold medals from world championships. Another victory will make him part of an elite club, which before him included only two legendary wrestlers: the Soviet giant Alexander Medved and the Bulgarian legend Valentin Yordanov, each of whom managed to win seven world titles.
Why is this a historic moment?
Alexander Medved, in his time, became a symbol of absolute supremacy in wrestling: a three-time Olympic champion, seven-time world champion, and one of the main heroes of the golden era of Soviet sports. Valentin Yordanov, who dominated in the 80s and 90s, also managed to leave a bright mark, proving that stability and many years at the top are possible even in conditions of fierce competition.
Now, Abdulrashid Sadulaev is rapidly approaching them. His path in history is already impressive, and a seventh world gold medal will cement his status as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.
The Path to the Top
Sadulaev won his first world championship victory in 2014 when he was just 18 years old. Since then, he has consistently remained at the top, defeating the strongest opponents on the planet. His character, strength, and phenomenal technique make him almost untouchable.
What's Next?
If he secures his seventh world championship gold, Abdulrashid Sadulaev will officially enter the narrow circle of living legends, becoming an equal to Medved and Yordanov. But unlike his predecessors, he competes in an era of even denser competition and global wrestling, which makes his potential achievement especially valuable.
The entire sports world is eagerly awaiting the moment when Sadulaev can cement his name in history next to the planet's greatest wrestlers.
