Seventeen-year-old Armenian women's national wrestling team member Serine Diana Crane has reflected on her performances on the international stage in 2026. The young wrestler shared her feelings about the opportunity to represent Armenia at major youth competitions and spoke about the challenges she faced on her journey to the World Championships.
This year, Crane competed in three major international tournaments: the U20 European Championships, the U20 World Championships and the U23 World Championships. Remarkably, the Armenian wrestler was just 17 years old at the time.
"It is a great honor for me to represent Armenia and gain this experience at just 17. I had the privilege of competing at the European Championships, the U20 World Championships and the U23 World Championships. I finished seventh at the U20 World Championships and learned so much from the experience," Crane wrote.
The athlete also highlighted her return to the wrestling mat after a lengthy break. According to Crane, she had previously been forced to miss her entire junior season and had gone six months without competing.
"Going from missing an entire season and spending six months without competition to competing on the world stage helped me grow and overcome challenges I might not have faced otherwise," the wrestler explained.
Crane also expressed her gratitude to her coach, Martin, for his trust, patience and daily support. She separately thanked her parents for the sacrifices they have made for her athletic career, as well as her training partners, family and friends for their continued encouragement.
"I have faith that if I keep working hard, God will always meet me halfway," the athlete added.
As a reminder, Crane competed in the 50 kg weight category at the U23 World Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas. In her opening bout, the Armenian wrestler suffered a 7-4 defeat against Switzerland's Senja Jungo.
Despite not winning a medal, her series of appearances at international competitions marked an important stage in the young wrestler's career as she aims to continue developing and improving her skills.
