On April 19, the women's 81 kg category medal contest took place at the European Weightlifting Championships in Chișinău. The victory went to the host nation's athlete, Elena Eryghina of Moldova, who totaled 242 kg (106 kg snatch and 136 kg clean & jerk).
Seventeen-year-old Armenian lifter Emma Poghosyan fought until the very end for a spot on the podium. After a successful 100 kg snatch, Emma attempted 138 kg in the clean & jerk — a result that could have earned her a medal. However, she failed the lift twice and ultimately finished in 5th place with a total of 230 kg (100+130).
