Gaspar Terteryan, World Champion, was warmly welcomed in Echmiadzin

On Komitas Square in Echmiadzin, with music, dances, and posters, the U20 Greco-Roman Wrestling World Champion Gaspar Terteryan and his coach Simon Karapetyan were greeted with great celebration.

The 20-year-old athlete won the gold medal at the 2025 World Junior Championships, which concluded on August 24 in Bulgaria. Competing in the 72 kg weight category, Terteryan demonstrated brilliant wrestling, securing Armenia’s only gold medal and helping the national team take second place overall.

On August 26, the Armenian team returned home, after which Gaspar, together with his brother Samvel—who placed 7th—went to his hometown of Echmiadzin.

The head of the Vagharshapat community, Argishti Mehakyan, congratulated the athlete and highlighted his contribution to strengthening the country’s sporting glory:

“With pride we welcomed our champion — U20 World Champion gold medalist Gaspar Terteryan and his coach Simon Karapetyan. I thank them for raising the name of our community high and becoming an example for the younger generation. I am confident that this victory is only the beginning of greater achievements.”

The residents of the city emphasized that Terteryan’s victory became a source of joy and pride for all of Armenia.
