After exhausting Conference League matches, both Pyunik and Ararat-Armenia had a tough start to the new Armenian Premier League season. Both clubs rotated their squads, giving rest to key players.
Pyunik managed to snatch a victory against Alashkert despite trailing 0–1 at halftime. The hero of the match was Danil Kulikov, who scored the winning goal after the team had equalized thanks to an own goal by the opponent. Julien Bationo scored the only goal for Alashkert. Joel Bopesu was involved in both Pyunik goals, having been left out of the European match by coach Egishe Melikyan.
Ararat-Armenia couldn't convert their dominance into goals and were held to a 0–0 draw by Van in Charentsavan. Despite applying pressure, they were unable to break through the opponent’s defense.
Ararat-Armenia will play their next match on August 7 in the UEFA Conference League second qualifying round against Czech side Sparta.
