Three Armenian weightlifters called up for compulsory military service

The Armenian Weightlifting Federation has announced the call-up of three leading athletes from the national team for compulsory military service.

Among the recruits are two-time European champion Garik Karapetyan, European youth champion and junior world silver medalist Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, as well as world and European youth champion, record holder Serozha Barseghyan.

The athletes will serve in the Central Sports Club of the Army (CSCA). The Federation wished them success, resilience, and new achievements already in the army ranks.

It is noted that the athletes will still be able to participate in international tournaments. On October 2, the 2025 World Weightlifting Championships will start in Norway, and Garik Karapetyan is listed in the preliminary squad of the Armenian national team in the 110 kg weight category.
