Quarterfinal bouts of the RCC Boxing Promotions Grand Prix took place in Yekaterinburg, where Tigran Sogoyan and Georgy Abionyan confidently advanced to the next stage, showcasing high-level preparation and tactical maturity.
Sogoyan drops Ganiev twice
In the lightweight division, Tigran Sogoyan (8-1-1) faced Sardorbek Ganiev (5-1-1). The fight was intense and entertaining: in the opening round, Sogoyan caught his opponent with a precise counter and sent him to the canvas.
Ganiev kept pressing forward, trying to turn the tide with pressure and combinations, but Sogoyan responded effectively with counterattacks, varied his strikes, and controlled the distance well. In the second half of the fight, Sogoyan found another opening — a right hook sent Ganiev down again.
Despite Ganiev’s resilience and comeback attempts, Sogoyan secured a clear unanimous decision victory and moved on to the semifinals.
Abionyan outclasses Kiryakov with speed and movement
In the light heavyweight quarterfinal, Georgy Abionyan (7-0) faced Andrey Kiryakov (2-1). The fight was dictated by Abionyan, who relied on speed, mobility, and distance control from the very beginning.
Abionyan used his jab активно, switched stances, and moved constantly, preventing his opponent from imposing a power-based style. Kiryakov attempted to apply pressure but failed to achieve significant success.
Throughout the bout, Abionyan looked fresher and more precise, confidently outboxing his opponent. The result was a well-deserved unanimous decision victory.
