Armenian Greco-Roman wrestler Slavik Galstyan (67 kg) remains in contention for a medal at the 2025 World Championships in Zagreb.
The 28-year-old athlete started the tournament with a convincing 10:1 victory over Kazakhstan’s Din Mukhummel Koshkar, then defeated France’s Yazidi wrestler Gagik Snjoyan 9:3. In the quarterfinals, Galstyan faced three-time European champion Hasrat Jafarov of Azerbaijan. It was a tense and competitive match, but Jafarov claimed victory 4:3.
Since Jafarov advanced to the final, Galstyan earned the right to continue competing for bronze through the repechage rounds.
Tomorrow he will face the winner of the Neizer Hidalgo (Venezuela) vs Tsuchika Shimoyamada (Australia) match. If successful, Galstyan could meet Kyrgyzstan’s Razzak Beyshekeyev in the bronze medal bout.
On September 20, Karen Aslanyan (63 kg) and Vigen Nazaryan (87 kg) also competed for Armenia but were eliminated in the early rounds.
So far, Armenia has secured one medal at the tournament — a gold by Malkhas Amoyan (77 kg). Later today, Hrachya Poghosyan (60 kg) will also compete for bronze.
