Armenia National Team Started at the U17 European Fencing Championship in Tbilisi

The 2026 European Fencing Championship for Cadets (U17) and Juniors has started in Tbilisi. On the first day of competition, 270 athletes took to the pistes, competing for medals in three individual events: men’s épée, women’s foil, and women’s sabre.
The Armenian national team had an unsuccessful start.
In the boys’ épée event, Alexander Hakobyan finished 121st out of 122 participants.
In the girls’ foil tournament, Monika Markosyan placed 85th among 86 fencers.
Despite the difficult start, several competitive days still lie ahead for the Armenian team. As early as tomorrow, six more Armenian representatives will take to the pistes. The tournament will continue until February 23.
Results of Day One – U17 European Fencing Championship
Cadet Men’s Épée
France’s Toto Hiroaki became European champion. Italy’s De Gaetano Pietro claimed silver, while bronze medals went to Hungary’s Dekany Patrik and Israel’s Lachman Mordechai Milu.
Cadet Women’s Foil
Turkey’s Atmaca Alara won gold, confirming her status as one of the leaders of European cadet fencing. Romania’s Adoch Alexandra took silver, while bronze medals were shared by Latvia’s Abele Liene and France’s Bolore Melisande.
Cadet Women’s Sabre
Hungary’s Komjathy Boglarka captured the gold medal. Ukraine’s Velychko Maiia earned silver, and Italy’s Torre Anna and Mocci Vittoria finished third.
After the first day, France, Turkey, and Hungary lead the medal standings with one gold medal each.
The U17 European Championship in Tbilisi is only gaining momentum, and the battle for medals and ranking points among the continent’s strongest young fencers continues.
