Razmik Kurdian in the semifinals as three other Armenian wrestlers debut at U23 World Championships

On October 20, in Novi Sad, Serbia, the 2025 U23 World Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships kicked off. On the opening day, four Armenian wrestlers took to the mat, and one of them — Razmik Kurdian — advanced to the semifinals.
In the 130 kg category, Kurdian defeated Belarusian Ilya Shumchik (4:3) in the round of 16 and then overcame Artur Sargsyan of the Czech Republic (3:2) in a hard-fought quarterfinal. In the semifinals, the Armenian heavyweight will face Alexander Melekhov (Russia).
Another Armenian, Samvel Terteryan (77 kg), reached the quarterfinals but lost to Levente Levai (Hungary) 1:3. Earlier, Terteryan had beaten Isami Horikita (Japan) 5:4 and Ismail Barakhoev (Russia) 6:3 (fall). If Levai wins his semifinal, Terteryan will have a chance to compete in the repechage.
Ruben Gevorgyan (87 kg) and David Jotyan (63 kg) ended their campaigns after the first round.
87 kg (1/16): Gevorgyan — Yassin Ben Labed (Poland) 6:14
63 kg (1/16): Jotyan — Jeremy Peralta (Ecuador) 0:8
If the Polish wrestler Ben Labed reaches the final, Gevorgyan will also have a chance to continue in the repechage.
Semifinals of the first day will start at 20:00 Yerevan time (19:00 Moscow time).
