On the eve of one of the most anticipated quarter-final clashes of the Champions League — the showdown between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich — the teams’ head coaches shared their expectations and mindset for the game.
Real Madrid head coach Álvaro Arbeloa emphasized that his team is focused on only one outcome:
“For us, there is only one option — to beat Bayern and advance. We understand how serious an opponent this is, but special European nights always happen at the Santiago Bernabéu.”
On the opponent and pressure
Arbeloa highlighted Bayern’s current form and specifically praised the work of their coach, Vincent Kompany:
“They are having an outstanding season and are perhaps the most consistent team in Europe. But we are ready for this challenge.”
According to him, pressure at Real Madrid is part of the club’s DNA:
“We don’t waste time on disappointment. All our energy is focused on tomorrow’s match.”
On Mbappé and the team’s stars
Special attention was given to Kylian Mbappé, who, according to the coach, fully understands the significance of playing for the Madrid club:
“He dreamed of playing for Real Madrid and came here for matches like this. For a coach, it’s a privilege to work with players like Mbappé, Vinícius, Bellingham, and Valverde.”
At the same time, Arbeloa stressed that success depends on teamwork rather than individual brilliance.
Role of leaders
Speaking about Jude Bellingham and David Alaba, the coach noted their leadership qualities:
“With Bellingham, we become stronger — he is a true leader. And Alaba’s experience cannot be overstated.”
Bayern’s response
Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany stated that his team is preparing for the best version of Real Madrid:
“We expect to face the Real Madrid that played against Manchester City. This is probably the toughest away match in the Champions League.”
He also avoided discussing the Mbappé–Vinícius partnership:
“That’s not our concern. We have enough of our own tasks within the team.”
Question about Kane
Kompany also commented on Harry Kane:
“He understands the importance of the match, but the decision about the starting lineup will be made closer to the game.”
The match promises to be one of the key events of the European football season, featuring not only star-studded lineups but also two contrasting football philosophies.
