On April 7, the first matches of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League quarterfinals took place. Germany’s Bayern Munich and England’s Arsenal secured narrow but important away victories, making strong bids for a place in the semifinals.
Real Madrid 1–2 Bayern Munich
Goals:
0:1 — Luis Díaz, 41
0:2 — Harry Kane, 46
1:2 — Kylian Mbappé, 74
The Munich side, led by Vincent Kompany, delivered a strong performance in Madrid and deservedly took the win. Goals from Díaz before halftime and Kane right after the break gave the visitors a comfortable advantage.
However, Real Madrid did not give up. Mbappé reduced the deficit, and in the closing stages the hosts increased the pressure, creating several dangerous chances. Despite the loss, Madrid still have good chances for a comeback—something they have repeatedly shown in this competition.
Bayern, meanwhile, may regret missed opportunities, as the scoreline could have been bigger. The return leg will take place in Munich on April 15.
Sporting CP 0–1 Arsenal
Goal:
0:1 — Kai Havertz, 91
The London club snatched victory in Lisbon thanks to a stoppage-time goal by Havertz. Mikel Arteta’s team controlled the game for most of the match but struggled to break down the opponent’s defense.
A substitution proved decisive, with Gabriel Martinelli providing the assist for the winning goal.
Sporting proved to be a very resilient opponent, and despite the defeat, the tie remains open. Nevertheless, Arsenal head into the second leg with a slim but crucial advantage.
