Today, on September 15, athletes in the weight categories up to 65 and 97 kg are competing at the 2025 World Freestyle Wrestling Championships in Zagreb.
In the category up to 97 kg, the reigning Olympic champion Ahmed Tazhudinov is advancing to the semifinals for the Bahrain national team. Ahmed is the undisputed favorite at the tournament and confirms this status. In the 1/8 finals, he easily overcomes the representative of North Macedonia Magomedagaji Nurov, and in the 1/4 he meets with the Russian Magomed Kurbanov. Their fight turns out to be very competitive, but the Olympic champion wins and reaches the semifinals of the world championship.
His next opponent in the semifinals will be Iran's Amirali Azaripira. The Iranian is also a medalist at the recent Olympic Games in Paris. On the way to the semifinals, Amirali wins three landslide victories: first over a Mongolian wrestler, then over a Bulgarian, and finally over an Indian representative.
The semifinal matches will take place today at 17:30 Moscow time.
