The Appeals Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued a landmark decision regarding the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, officially awarding the victory to the Morocco national team.
According to a CAF statement, the Senegal national team has been handed a technical defeat. The final score has been recorded as 3–0 in favor of Morocco.
Thus, the Morocco national team officially becomes the winner of the tournament.
The decision was made based on Article 84 of the tournament regulations. The appeal submitted by the Moroccan Football Federation was upheld, and the previous decision of the disciplinary committee was overturned.
The Appeals Committee found that the actions of the Senegal team violated Articles 82 and 84 of the AFCON regulations, which led to the technical defeat.
Initially, Senegal had won the final 1–0 after extra time. Near the end of regular time, Morocco forward Brahim Díaz missed a penalty. After the penalty was awarded, the entire Senegal team left the field and returned only after 20 minutes. This incident likely became the key reason for the technical defeat, which was recorded two months after the match.
